They are an essential part of the Finnish economy and an important source of income generation.   \n\n\n\nAt the same time\, forests are meaningful spaces for living\, recreation\, for wellbeing and restoration. Research shows forests are irreplaceable ecosystems\, essential to provide habitat for thousands of species. \n\n\n\nYet\, the meaning\, and the use of forests in Finland is changing. In the future\, we will need to learn how to balance the plurality of people’s values and interests while ensuring that forests remain within their ecological carrying capacity. \n\n\n\n\nAna Jones-Wilenius\, PhD Candidate\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n…conducts research at the Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC)\, University of Turku.
