A few words about the artist Aki Turunen

Aki Turunen painter Helsinki

Aki Turunen is a Helsinki-based artist (b. 1983) known for his paintings that blend intuitive, subconscious imagery with a deep knowledge of art history. His work is influenced by tradition and history, reflected in both his choice of materials and the themes he explores. By adapting traditional tools and incorporating personal narratives into historical imagery, Turunen’s paintings offer a glimpse into shared human experiences. His style is marked by openness and clear, delicate strokes, evolving with each exhibition.

Turunen earned an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, and also studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Denmark, including at Helsinki Contemporary, Martin Asbæk Gallery, and the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition. His art is featured in prominent collections like the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and the Finnish State Art Commission. In 2021, Turunen received the William Thuring designated prize from the Finnish Art Society.
